This is great news for MOY students. They will see one of Asia's top orchestra perform. One day, who knows, they may be playing in this orchestra. This is a dream come true for me; this is what I advocated in my story "A Higher Bar" in Gordon's Blog for MOY students.

MOY Charity Golf Tournament
20 November 2009
MOY's first charity golf day was held successfully held at the Macau Gof and Country Club on Friday, 20 November.
At the beginning of the week, the sudden cold front worried me sick. Everything turned out fine. We had a cloudless, sunny day. The wind was strong, but it did not stop Alex Lau's team winning the MOY trophy with a net score of 68, on the par 71 course. Congratulations to the winning team,to those who won prizes, and to all participants; they conquered the wind.
We raised $500,000, $300,000 from the tournament, and $200,000 from the auction at dinner time. Every cent will be spent on a training scheme at a school. Which school? Two contenders are competing, one school each in Macau and Hong Kong.
I thank Betsy and Eddie Li and their team for the sterling work they did preparing and running this, our first tournament.
The next tournament is now on our planning board. I'll write again on this.

With a student population of 1200, Kian Kok has three orchestras: a Chinese Orchestra, a Symphonic Band and a Symphony Orchestra, with a combined membership of over 240 students. The Kian Kok team will be joined by their trainer, violinist Yap Ling, who will also give master classes whilst he is in Hong Kong.
The Beijing Military Music and Arts Academy, China

The MOY works with the Academy on two fronts. First, music students from the Academy will go on tour with students from other MOY schools. Second, a series of concerts will be organized at the Academy, which has its own residential facilities as well as venues for rehearsal and performances. Students from the MOY network of schools will be able to apply to play in these concerts, where they will perform side by side with the students of the Academy, and learn from the teachers at the Academy.
As with other schools in the MOY network, the cooperation between the MOY and the Academy will initially be for a period of three years, starting from October, 2009.
